You don’t need to stop going though your curriculum in order to incorporate popular songs OLD and NEW. You CAN teach music literacy skills and achieve many of your curricular outcomes by teaching popular music! During this two hour workshop, participants will learn easy ways to arrange popular music, and what to be on the lookout/listening for when selecting repertoire; all while playing through multiple ukulele ensembles carefully curated and arranged by “Ukulele for Children” author Christina O’Brien.

Join Christina as she walks participants through tried and true techniques to reinforce note reading, as well as ways to provide differentiation to ensure every student in your classroom experiences success. Teachers will leave feeling empowered to teach the ukulele, and armed with the skills to arrange music for their own classes.

Reproducible handouts plus all digital slides and teaching visuals will be shared via email right after the workshop.

Many of the songs can easily fit into your year-end celebrations, or they are the perfect way to kick off your school year in September and get your students excited about music! The handouts and slides make it simple for teachers to just open the files and get started right away. Everything is formatted to make teaching simple and fun in your class. The arrangements can easily be taught on other classroom instruments such as boomwhackers or xylophones if you’re not currently using ukuleles.
